The Gospel of Christ

What God did for us — from the problem of sin to radical grace. What changed from the Old Testament, how it rules our lives now, and why it's available to literally anyone.

The Human Problem

The Fall — Sin Enters the World

Adam and Eve's choice to distrust God plunges all of creation into brokenness. Death, shame, and separation from God become the human default — not the exception.

Genesis 3:6–7Romans 5:12Romans 3:23

The Law Given at Sinai

God gives Israel the Mosaic Law — not to save them, but to reveal just how deep the problem runs. No one can fully keep it. Its purpose was to show us we need a rescuer.

Romans 3:20Galatians 3:24Romans 7:7

The Sacrificial System — A Shadow

For centuries, the blood of animals was required to cover sin. But it was always a temporary shadow — it couldn't actually remove guilt, only point forward to the sacrifice that would.

Hebrews 10:4Leviticus 17:11Hebrews 10:1

The Promise

The First Promise — Genesis 3:15

Even in the middle of the curse, God makes the first gospel promise: one day, a descendant of the woman will crush the serpent's head. The rescue mission begins immediately.

Genesis 3:15

Centuries of Messianic Prophecy

Over hundreds of years and dozens of writers, the Old Testament builds a detailed portrait of the coming Rescuer: born in Bethlehem, of a virgin, from the line of David, betrayed for 30 pieces of silver, pierced, rising again.

Isaiah 53:5Micah 5:2Isaiah 7:14

Abraham — Counted Righteous by Faith

Centuries before the Law, God credits Abraham's faith as righteousness. This establishes that the basis of a right relationship with God has always been trust — not performance.

Genesis 15:6Galatians 3:8Romans 4:3

God Becomes Flesh

The Word Became Flesh

The eternal, all-powerful Creator of the universe voluntarily enters his own creation as a helpless baby. This is not God sending a representative — this is God himself arriving in person.

John 1:1, 14Philippians 2:6–7

The Life and Ministry of Jesus

Jesus doesn't just die for us — he lives the life we were supposed to live. Perfect obedience where we fail. Perfect love where we fall short. His righteous life is credited to us.

Hebrews 4:15Matthew 5:17Luke 19:10

The Cross

The Last Supper — New Covenant Established

Jesus takes bread and wine and announces that a new covenant is being sealed — in his own blood. The old system of sacrifices is being superseded by the once-for-all sacrifice of himself.

Luke 22:19–20Jeremiah 31:31

The Crucifixion — Bearing Our Sin

Jesus takes every sin of every person who would ever live — past, present, future — onto himself. God's just wrath against evil, which should have fallen on us, falls on him instead. This is substitutionary atonement.

2 Corinthians 5:21Galatians 3:13Isaiah 53:6

"It Is Finished" — Complete Atonement

Tetelestai — a single Greek word meaning 'paid in full.' The debt of sin is not reduced, managed, or deferred. It is completely settled. Nothing can be added to what Jesus accomplished.

John 19:30Colossians 2:13–14Hebrews 9:26

The Resurrection & Victory

The Resurrection — Death Defeated

On the third day, the tomb is empty. Death — the consequence of sin — is defeated. The resurrection is not a spiritual metaphor. It is the bodily, historical event on which the entire gospel stands.

1 Corinthians 15:3–4Romans 1:41 Corinthians 15:17

The Great Commission — Go Tell Everyone

Jesus doesn't keep the gospel to himself or to a small group. His final command is that this news — that sin is forgiven and death is conquered — goes to every person in every nation.

Matthew 28:18–20Acts 1:8

A New Era Begins

The Ascension — Our Advocate Above

Jesus ascends to the Father's right hand — not to be absent but to intercede for us as our permanent High Priest. He is right now advocating for every believer before God.

Hebrews 4:14–16Hebrews 7:25Romans 8:34

Pentecost — The Spirit Poured Out on All

The Holy Spirit descends not just on prophets and kings but on everyone who believes — men, women, young, old, slave, free. The presence of God is now personal, internal, and universal.

Acts 2:1–4Joel 2:28–29Acts 2:38–39

Old Covenant vs. New Covenant — What Changed

The Old Covenant was written on stone tablets and required constant sacrifice. The New Covenant is written on hearts by the Spirit and is sealed by a single, permanent sacrifice. Everything is different now.

Hebrews 8:6–7Jeremiah 31:332 Corinthians 3:6

The Radical Nature of Grace

Grace Is Not a Better Law

Grace doesn't say 'try harder.' It doesn't say 'clean yourself up first.' It says 'I know everything about you and I love you anyway — and now I will transform you.' That is not what religion offers.

Ephesians 2:8–9Romans 6:14Galatians 5:4

Justified by Faith — Declared Righteous

Justification is not God making you better over time — it's God declaring you righteous right now, the moment you trust in Christ. It's a legal verdict, not a moral process. The guilty are acquitted.

Romans 3:28Romans 4:4–5Romans 5:1

No Condemnation — The Verdict Is Final

For those in Christ, the verdict is in — and it never changes. Not guilty. No condemnation. God is not waiting to see how you perform. The case is closed.

Romans 8:1John 5:24Romans 8:33–34

Available to Literally Anyone — No Exceptions

The Gospel has no waiting list, no entrance exam, no background check. The invitation is not for the good people — it's for the lost, the broken, the ashamed, the far-gone. Especially them.

John 3:16–17Romans 5:81 Timothy 2:3–4

Nothing Can Separate You from His Love

Not your worst day. Not your worst secret. Not death. Not the devil. Not your own failures. The love of God in Christ Jesus is not fragile — it is the most secure thing that exists.

Romans 8:38–39John 10:28–29Jude 24

Life in the Gospel Now

Adopted into God's Family

Salvation is not just being forgiven — it's being brought into the family. You are not a servant. You are not a hired hand who has to earn your place. You are a child of God.

Romans 8:15–16Galatians 4:6–71 John 3:1

The Holy Spirit Lives Inside You

Under the Old Covenant, the Spirit came upon people for specific tasks. Now he permanently indwells every believer. God himself lives inside you — guiding, convicting, empowering, comforting.

1 Corinthians 6:19–20Galatians 5:22–23Ezekiel 36:27

A Completely New Identity

In Christ, you are not just a forgiven version of your old self. You are a new creation. Your sin no longer defines you. Your past no longer owns you. Your identity is now hidden in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17Colossians 3:3Ephesians 1:3–5

Sanctification — God Finishing What He Started

Justification is a one-time verdict. Sanctification is the ongoing process of becoming more like Jesus. But it's not you pulling yourself up — it's God's Spirit working in you from the inside out.

Philippians 1:6Romans 12:22 Corinthians 3:18

Love Replaces Fear as Our Motivation

Under the law, obedience is driven by fear of punishment. Under grace, obedience flows from love. Not 'I must do this or God will punish me' but 'I get to do this because of what he's done for me.'

1 John 4:19John 13:34–35Romans 13:10
