The viral framing often says: “AI data centers are poisoning wells.”
The more accurate version: Large data center projects can create real water risks through construction dewatering, utility water demand, stormwater runoff, wetland disruption, and cooling needs. Some communities are reporting severe impacts, but proving causation requires baseline water data, monitoring wells, flow modeling, construction records, and water-quality testing.
